I moved to the city 2 years ago and I feel as though I am still settling in some days. The energetic streets, hipster restaurants with secret passwords and eclectic people was an adventure on its own. But moving from a small town in which a 5-minute drive could have you in an untouched forest, the lack of escape and greenery its toll on my inner happiness.bcbg, girls just know, girlie, ruffles in the garden, garden oasis, blue, the nicest gardens in Toronto, rooftop gardens, toronto garden magazine, zara neclace

With an early rise in the country, I would sneak out to my very own magical spot on the edge of an untouched shore. It was one of my favourite private adventures. Of course there was coffee in hand but sitting there watching the reflection of the treeline in the still water. And the sounds…nothing. Nothing but a loon calling and the squirrels calling out to each other. As the steam cleared off the lake and the sun snuck in, it was a little piece of heaven. Sometimes I think it was my own sort of meditating. Like if you lived in these remote areas, you would need to practice but just enjoy the simplest of moments.

I needed this feeling back. The feeling of tranquility in such a busy city. Here tucked away in Trinity Bellwood’s rooftop, hides my very own rooftop oasis. It took a lot of work and each year I add to the garden as the vine’s grip to the sides of the walls and boxwood trees grow lusher.

This year I’ve filled the garden with lavender, strawberries, hanging plants, and tomatoes.

It’s the perfect place to hide away in the mornings and sip dark roasted coffee or enjoy a homemade dinner that’s garnished with herbs from the garden while listening to the Rat Pack.

The theme for the garden is basically ‘put as much greenery as possible in a single space’. There wasn’t much planning at the beginning. Though it has slowly evolved, the table is a mosaic of different shades of light blue and the outdoor furniture is of similar colour.

I never really realized what colours I was drawn to until I took a step back and looked around at the accents. Even my Instagram account is similar, full of pinks, blues, marbles, coffee and floral prints.

This BCBG dress is no exception, this A-line shirt dress creates the perfect shape for your body.

I love that it cinches at the waist and flows out but still keeping a thin figure. It’s not see through and the buttons do not create gaps. So nobody’s going to see a half boob when you turn sideways!

And most importantly, it buttons the entire way down. I can not tell you how many dresses I have tried on only to have the entire half of the dress not do up. Seriously, who makes these things? No one has time to add an extra button!

The neck has a stiff collar that I don’t usually button up so high but it seemed fitting with this chunky statement necklace from Zara.

I feel good in this dress and it’s a dress you can wear to work, brunch, to meet your boyfriend’s parents. It’s so transitional that it has quickly become one of my favourites in my closet.

Would you wear the necklace like this? What would you wear it with?
